Putting Together a First Aid Kit for Your Ferret

Having a first aid kit for your ferrets is a necessity. You never know when one of your ferret will have a medical emergency that requires immediate care. In the event of an emergency, you will need to rush your ferret to the veterinarian as soon as possible, but having the materials necessary to sustain your ferret in the interim can save her life!

You can put a ferret first aid kit together by buying the items separately, or you can purchase a ready made kit. If you make one yourself, use a small plastic tub with a tight fitting lid to store the items.

Some of the items you should include in the first aid kit are:

  • Phone number of your veterinarian and emergency clinics
  • Vaccination and health records
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Styptic powders or gels
  • Oral syringes
  • Cotton swabs and balls
  • Cold packs and heat wraps
  • Bandaging materials
  • Highly palatable diets such as Hill's a/d
  • Nutri-cal or Ferretvite
  • High sugar source such as Karo syrup
  • Ferret Lax
  • Sterile solution
  • Hydrogen peroxide (to make a ferret vomit)

The above items are just a few of the supplies that you should store in your ferret's first aid kit. To get a full list of the products that make up a complete first aid kit, read Making A First Aid Kit For Your Ferret.
